    Frequently Asked Questions

    1
What are the advantages of Suraska?
    • The medical center is equipped with the latest generation of apparatus:
      • The Truebeam STx – focuses the rays on the tumor better than the previous model. This reduces the side effects of radiation therapy.
      • The Da Vinci Xi robot – the 11th generation has become more precise. It can now be used for neurosurgery.
      • CyberKnife M6 – works even faster, so this cyber knife can be used for moving organs (intestines, bladder, prostate)
      • .

    • The staff is specially trained and regularly certified. The equipment is correctly maintained and decommissioned in time to ensure better treatment success rates.
    • The Suraski Medical Center researches experimental drugs. For this reason, new drugs become available to patients sooner, and doctors already have a lot of experience in their use: prescribing the correct dosage, knowing about side effects when combined with other medications. The well-known cancer drugs pembrolizumab (Keytruda®) and nivolumab (Opdivo®) have been used here for more than 6 years, and the drugs used today will be available in other countries only in a few years.
    • For patients with several diseases, multidisciplinary treatment is used – simultaneous management by doctors of different specialties. The buildings of the Ikhilov Center are connected by underground corridors, so patients undergo any diagnosis in a short period of time without leaving the hospital.

What specialized centers are there in Suraski?
    • Ted Arison Medical Tower. All the equipment needed for diagnostics: CT, MRI, PET-CT, and adult patient departments are in one building.
    • Dana-Dweck Children’s Hospital. Children require specialized knowledge and approach from the staff, and the equipment must be designed for the child’s anatomy. That is why the Suraski complex includes a separate children’s hospital.
    • Ikhilov General Hospital is the oldest building in the complex. Includes a polyclinic for consultations and a laboratory for tests and tissue samples.
    • Semmy Ofer Heart and Brain Building. The operating rooms for heart and brain are different from the standard ones: they have operating CT and MRI machines. Therefore, the Suraski Clinic has created a separate cardiac surgery and neurosurgery building. It also includes a research center and underground emergency hospital (the largest in Israel).
    • Lys Women’s Hospital and Maternity Hospital. The Women’s Hospital at the Suraski Center delivers 12,000 births annually.
    • Rehabilitation is the main achievement of Israeli medicine. This field is so popular that the management of the Suraski Medical Center has planned to move the department to the Adams Rehabilitation and Health Science Building.

Why do cancer patients choose Suraski for treatment?

    Modern and quality examination

    • The Oncology Department at Suraski Clinic performs tests for mutations of cancer cells. This allows for the selection of the least toxic treatment.
    • The equipment used is high definition (3TL+, 256+ slices). It shows the tumor contours well and allows planning for maximum sparing surgery.
    • The new contrasts for PET-CT (F18, C11, Ga68, FDG, Choline, Fluciclovine, PSMA, NaF) used at Ichilov allow finding distant foci of metastases in any part of the body with sizes up to 1 mm.
    • Genetic screening reveals a patient’s predisposition to cancer. Such tests can completely cure a patient first time, without the risk of recurrence and unnecessary doses of chemotherapy and radiation.

    Diversity of treatment options

In case of surgery, patients have access tomodern methods: laparoscopy, da Vinci robot, ultrasonic scalpel, cyber knife. Surgery is performed with organ preservation and minimal blood loss. Treatment takes less time, and complete rehabilitation lasts 2-3 weeks instead of 6 months.
Patients are recommended safe and effective drugs: targeted and immune therapies. Radiation therapy is performed on precise machines that do not affect healthy tissue. This allows you to feel significantly better.

    Selected Organ Oncology

The hospital has more than 10 departments: general oncology, onco-surgery, radiation oncology, urologic oncology, gynecologic oncology, neuro-oncology, endocrine oncology, pediatric oncology, hematology, orthopedic oncology and others. The attending doctor specializes specifically on your diagnosis.

How do 95% of patients regain mobility in the orthopedics department?

Annually, more than 2,000 patients choose to undergo surgery at the Orthopedic Department at Suraski Medical Center.

There are 6 orthopedic units: shoulder surgery, hand surgery, foot and lower leg surgery, joint surgery, sports medicine, and rehabilitation. Each specializes in specific types of injuries and diseases. Your attending doctor will have extensive experience in treating your joint, so will be able to help you.
Israel has developed a unique system of straightening the spine Api Fix – it allows you to cure scoliosis without bulky metal structures. Patients with the consequences of severe trauma can restore the support system with individualized titanium prostheses made on a 3D printer. For children with bone oncology, a temporary implant is placed after the site is removed, growing with the child’s growth. Children can develop fully despite their disease. Reconditioning of cartilage and ligaments in joints is possible without surgery: with gene therapy drugs. To remove herniated discs and rehabilitate the spine, Ikhilov doctors use modern author’s techniques: Spinal Fusion, APOS, DISC FX and others. This allows to get rid of pain and restore mobility in a short period of time.

Why is Suraski cardiac surgery popular with international patients?

Cardiac surgery is performed in a new building, the Sami Ofer Heart Center. It houses several hybrid operating rooms – rooms that combine diagnostic and surgical equipment. This allows heart surgery without incisions through small injections under the control of X-rays, CT scans and ultrasound. Here they perform stenting and bypass surgery, change the aortic valve through a (TAVI) catheter, change the mitral valve through a small intercostal incision, operate on heart and aortic aneurysms, and treat arrhythmias. All this is done without opening the chest, on a working heart without artificial circulation apparatus
    .
The center is headed by Dr. Yanai Ben Gal, a cardiothoracic surgeon with more than 20 years of practice in Israel and the United States.
