Uterine prolapse — a disease in which the normal location of the uterus is disrupted and the organ falls outside the vagina.
Uterine prolapse is contributed by its omission. By «uterus omission» is meant it’s displacement below the physiological level, but the uterus doesn’t go beyond the confines of the genital slit.
The most prevalent causes of uterine prolapse are:
- Tumor of the pelvic organs,
- Complicated, prolonged labor,
- Weakness of the pelvic muscles (congenital, acquired),
- Multiple repeated pregnancies.
Uterine prolapse can develop due to a combination of several reasons.
Factors provoking the progress of uterine prolapse:
- Overweight,
- Chronic constipation,
- Age over 60 years old,
- Heavy physical activity, carrying heavy weights.
Uterine prolapse can be:
- Incomplete (part of the uterus falls out) — corresponds to stages 2 and 3,
- Complete (the entire uterus falls out) — corresponds to 4 stages.
There are 4 degrees of uterine prolapse:
- There is no prolapse, but there is a displacement of the uterus,
- Incomplete prolapse — cervix is lowered to the entrance to the vagina and, when straining, is shown from the genital slit,
- Incomplete prolapse — cervix and part of the body of the uterus fall outside the entrance to the vagina,
- Complete prolapse of all parts of the uterus.
At the initial stage, the disease often doesn’t manifest itself, women feel well and don’t show any signs. The only complaint from a woman’s sexual partner is a wide vagina.
With the progression of prolapse, the following symptoms appear:
- Urinary incontinence when coughing, laughing or sneezing,
- Feeling of a foreign body in the vagina,
- Pelvic infections,
- Frequent urination,
- Vaginal discomfort,
- Painful intercourse,
- Back pain,
- Constipation.
Prevention of uterine prolapse includes:
Weight loss if you are overweight,
Regular exercises to strengthen the pelvic muscles,
Avoiding strenuous physical activity.

Diagnosis of uterine prolapse
