Innovative cancer treatment – consultation with immunologist Didenko

Medical articles

Cancer remains one of the main global challenges in modern medicine and is among the most dangerous and severe pathologies faced by humanity. For this reason, modern medicine pays special attention to this area. Cancer drugs are being developed, and new advanced methods of treating oncology are emerging. One of the most promising directions used in the treatment of malignant diseases is immunotherapy. This is an innovative approach to cancer treatment that utilizes the body’s immune system to destroy cancer cells.

The use of immunotherapy enables a personalized approach to treatment for each patient, taking into account the location of the tumor, its specific characteristics, and the individual features of the patient’s body. This allows for a significant increase in the effectiveness of the combating malignant diseases. Today, the use of immunotherapy in cancer treatment is still under investigation, it is already being used in clinical practice and showing promising results for many types of cancer.

To determine whether immune therapy is suitable for you and whether it will be effective in treating your disease, you can sign up for a consultation with immunologist and oncologist Hennadii Didenko.

Василий Геннадьевич Диденко
Hennadii Didenko is an immuno-oncologist and PhD in Biological Sciences, a specialist engaged in the search and development of immunological approaches to the treatment of oncological diseases. The doctor headed the laboratory of oncological immunology and development of cancer vaccines at the R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv. His work is related to the study of the mechanisms of action of the immune system in cancer, the possibilities of activating it to fight malignant diseases, and researching drugs that may have anti-cancer effects. Dr. Didenko participated in the development of vaccines that are already being used in practice and are used as an adjunct method in the comprehensive treatment of various types of cancer.

Consultations with an oncology immunologist who specializes in malignant diseases can help create a personalized cancer treatment plan that will be most effective for the individual patient. Cancer expert Dr. Didenko can provide qualified, personalized recommendations to optimize treatment for different types of cancer.

Immunotherapy – innovative cancer treatment: advantages of the method

Immunotherapy is considered one of the most advanced methods in modern medicine that uses fundamentally new approaches in oncology. In recent decades, this field has experienced a true breakthrough, opening up additional possibilities in the treatment of cancer with immunotherapy. This innovative cancer treatment uses a person’s own immune system to fight tumors. Cancer cells often “trick” the body by “disguising” themselves so that the immune system does not recognize them as a threat. Tumor immunology studies how these mechanisms work and how such masking occurs. Based on this understanding, immunotherapy techniques and immunotherapeutic drugs are being developed to “reprogram” the immune system, activating and enhancing the anti-tumor immune response. To do this effectively, a detailed tumor examination must be conducted to determine its exact characteristics.

Immunotherapy combines well with other modern oncology treatments. It can be used in combination with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. This approach has shown promising results in treating many types of cancer, including lung cancer, stomach cancer, and breast cancer. One of the key advantages of immunotherapy is the possibility of achieving long-term remission or complete cure in a number of oncological diseases.

Immunological approaches in oncology: main types of cancer immunotherapy

Cancer treatment with immunotherapy involves the use of various types of drugs that have a specific effect on the body:

  • Checkpoint inhibitors. These medicines block regulatory proteins (checkpoints) on the surface of immune cells. Cancer cells can use checkpoints to suppress T-lymphocyte activity. Checkpoint inhibitors “release” the T-lymphocytes, allowing them to effectively attack cancer cells.
  • Cell therapy. The method involves modifying a patient’s immune cells. These cells are extracted, genetically altered, and then reintroduced into the body to fight cancer. One example is CAR-T cell therapy, in which the patient’s T-lymphocytes are modified for this purpose.
  • Monoclonal antibodies. In this case, proteins are created in the laboratory that specifically bind to certain antigens on the surface of cancer cells or other cells involved in tumor growth.
  • Non-specific immunotherapy. Aimed at boosting the overall function of the immune system as a whole.
  • Cancer vaccines. Antitumor vaccines are innovations that have been increasingly used in cancer treatment in recent years due to the promising nature of the method. Cancer vaccines help a patient’s immune system recognize and attack cancer cells. At the same time, their use ensures maximum personalization of the cancer treatment process and makes it possible to create drugs for a specific situation. There are several types of antitumor vaccines, which differ in the characteristics of production and action.

Types of cancer vaccines

иммунотерапия рака вакцинация

Today, several types of antitumor vaccines have been developed, which are at different stages of implementation and have their own characteristics of creation and use. Vaccines that are already actively used in clinical practice and have proven their effectiveness include:

  • Autovaccine. This type of vaccine is made using a sample of the patient’s own tumor. The tumor’s own tissue is modified in laboratory conditions using the cytotoxic lectin B. subtilis B-7025, after which the drug is administered to the patient. The creation of such a vaccine is carried out after the removal of the neoplasm. The purpose of such vaccination is to activate the immune response across the antigen spectrum in order to avoid relapse of the disease. The Cancerax autovaccine has been developed in Ukraine. Vaccination with this vaccine has been shown to double survival rates and reduce the risk of metastasis and recurrence.
  • Xenovaccine. This is another type of vaccine that is made from proteins obtained from quail eggs. These proteins structurally resemble human tumor proteins, allowing for the development of an effective immunological anti-cancer agent. The introduction of such a vaccine allows the immune system to “learn” to recognize tumor cells and destroy them. The CANCERAX xenovaccine can be used in cases where the tumor was surgically removed and no cellular sample remains. Vaccination with this medicine may also be recommended for cancer prevention in people who have an increased risk of developing malignant conditions.

What types of cancer can be treated with cancer vaccines?

Currently, not all types of cancer can be treated with immunotherapy, and cancer vaccines are not always recommended as part of therapy. However, this method can be effective for many malignant conditions. For example, the use of xenovaccines has shown good results and leads to a reduction in the tumor progression by more than 70% in such pathologies as breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer, uterine cancer, intestinal cancer, bladder cancer, and a number of other oncological diseases.

Autovaccine can be used as personalized immunotherapy for breast cancer, brain cancer, stomach cancer, genitourinary cancer, lung cancer, and some other conditions.

A consultation with immunologist Didenko offers the opportunity to determine whether cancer vaccines are suitable for your condition and to assess how effective this type of treatment may be in your specific case.
