The main activities at Helios Hospital Munich West
Vascular Surgery
The vascular surgery department at Helios München West is one of the leaders in Germany. In 2018, 331 vascular surgeries were performed with zero mortality, which confirms the high level of safety and effectiveness of treatment. The vascular surgeons perform complex endovascular interventions, including balloon angioplasty and stenting. The department’s doctors use minimally invasive methods to treat varicose veins, aneurysms, gangrene, and chronic vascular diseases.
Oncological Treatment
Helios Hospital Munich West has certified centers for the treatment of colorectal cancer and breast cancer. Diagnostic methods include CT, MRI, PET-CT, and endoscopy with biopsy. Cancer treatment involves advanced technologists such as:
- hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC);
- intraoperative electron beam radiotherapy (IOERT);
- brachytherapy;
- thermal ablation;
- radiofrequency ablation of tumors.
For pancreatic cancer, the hospital uses the NanoKnife technology (nano-ablation), which ensures the targeted destruction of tumor cells without damaging surrounding tissue.
Orthopedics and Joint Replacement
The Joint Replacement Center is equipped with the Mako robotic system for high-precision implantation of knee and hip joint prostheses. Minimally invasive techniques reduce surgical trauma and accelerate recovery. The Endoactivity-Parcours rehabilitation program provides step-by-step therapy focused on restoring joint mobility and strength. Modern implants with improved biocompatible coatings are used.
Diagnostics and Laboratory Testing
Helios Hospital Munich West has an in-house laboratory that performs a wide range of tests, including:
- general and biochemical blood tests;
- microbiological testing;
- gastric juice and gut microbiome testing.
For internal organs imaging, the hospital uses computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound diagnostics, and digital X-ray diagnostics.
Technical Equipment and Medical Staff
The hospital is equipped with hybrid operating rooms, robotic systems, and telemedicine technology. The team consists of approximately 950 employees, including 78 physicians, 4 professors and 8 associate professors. The head of the vascular surgery department is MD Reza Ghotbi, a recognized expert with international experience.
