What diagnostic equipment is used at Memorial?

The main task of diagnosis is early detection of the disease at the stage when it has not yet manifested itself or at the first symptoms.

Radiotherapy. 80% of patients require radiation therapy before or after surgery. Each Memorial clinic is equipped with multiple units to avoid waiting lists. Memorial uses Elekta Versa HD and TrueBeam STx units: they are capable of delivering targeted, high-dose radiation therapy. The same effective treatment with higher doses of radiotherapy can be delivered in fewer sessions. Radiation accuracy is down to 1mm.
The Da Vinci Robot is used in urology, nephrology, onco-gynecology. It helps to perform surgery through small incisions. The three-dimensional image of the surgical field enables the doctor to make precise movements with the robot.

How is the treatment of oncohematology performed?

The therapy protocol is individualized. The decision on the treatment tactics is made by a team of specialists: hematologists, oncologists, surgeons, pediatricians, geneticists and immunologists. This allows for a comprehensive approach to solving the patient’s problem.

Therapeutic pathways:

Allo- and autologous bone marrow transplantation;
Treatment with monoclonal antibodies;
Polychemotherapy – due to the complexity of the disease course;
Targeted therapy.

Patients are treated in single rooms equipped with a HEPA filter system to prevent the risk of infection, which is very important after chemotherapy and during bone marrow transplantation.

What are the benefits of treatment in an organ transplant unit?

Memorial Transplant Center performed the first liver transplant in 2007 on a 14-year-old boy with a blood group incompatibility. Despite the difficulties, the child recovered quickly.

Transplantation in Turkey requires a related donor. This can be the patient’s husband or a relative up to the 4th degree of consanguinity.
