The main task of diagnosis is to identify the disease at a stage when the disease has not yet manifested or when the first symptoms have appeared.

• For a CT scan, doctors use a tomograph which makes 256 slices. This reduces the dose of radiation.
• For an MRI doctors use an installation with a 70 cm diameter to create comfortable conditions for people with a fear of an enclosed space.
• For PET-CT, doctors use Siemens Biograph, which helps to undergo examinations for patients weighing 200 kg.

• Doctors of Memorial use the method of treating ovarian cancer while maintaining preservation of fertility. It is also effective in cancer of germ cells and borderline tumors. During the surgery, the tissues or ovaries affected by cancer cells are removed, and the uterus and the second ovary are preserved, allowing the patient to become a mother in the future.
• Radiotherapy. 80% of patients require radiation therapy before or after surgery. Doctors in Memorial use the Elekta Versa HD and TrueBeam STx installations. One of the characteristics of new radio technologies is the ability to perform targeted, high-dose radiation therapy. Thus, in one or a few sessions patient receives effective treatment with high doses of radiotherapy and exposure accuracy up to 1mm.
• Doctors in Memorial use Da Vinci robot in urology, nephrology, and gynecological oncology. It helps to perform surgeries through small incisions. A three-dimensional image of the operation field enables the doctor to conduct precise movements with the help of a robot.

Center for hematology has 5 main divisions: immunology department, blood bank, department for radiology, resuscitation, and bone marrow transplantation.

What diseases are treated in the hematology division?

• Multiple myeloma;
• Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas;
• myeloid leukemia;
• lymphocytic leukemia;
• myeloproliferative disorders;

• coagulation disorders.

The treatment protocol is compiled individually. To comprehensively approach the solution of the patient’s problem, the decision on treatment tactics is made by a team of specialists: hematologists, oncologists, surgeons, pediatricians, geneticists, and immunologists.

Therapies used in Memorial:

• allogeneic and autologous bone marrow transplantation;
• treatment with monoclonal antibodies;
• polychemotherapy — depends on the complexity of the course of the disease;
• targeted therapy.

Patients are treated in single rooms equipped with a HEPA filter system to prevent the risk of infection, which is important after chemotherapy and during bone marrow transplantation.

In 2007 Memorial Transplant Center was the first to transplant a liver to a 14-year-old boy with an incompatible blood donor. Despite the difficulties, the child recovered quickly. A transplant in Turkey requires a related donor. It can be husband/wife or a relative up to and including the 4th knee of kinship.

The Transplantation Center of the Memorial Clinic Network is headed by Professor Munci Kalayoglu. He is a founder of the liver transplant program at the University of Wisconsin. Prof. Kalayoglu performed 2.000 liver transplantations. He has performed his first liver transplant surgery and the first transplant to the smallest recipient in Wisconsin.
