The website of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported that a project to strengthen the healthcare system in the field of rehabilitation after amputations is being implemented in Ukraine. It provides for the creation and support of prosthetic microclinics in the regions, as well as the launch of a production center in Lviv. The project is being implemented within the framework of grant agreements signed on April 1, 2025, between Ukraine and France for a total amount of over €51 million.
The main goal of the initiative is to strengthen the capacity of the healthcare system in the field of post-amputation rehabilitation, create prosthetic micro-clinics and equip them with modern prosthetics equipment, as well as provide conditions for high-quality training and work for specialists.
The total budget is over €4 million. Of this, more than €2.47 million is allocated to Lviv, where a production center and prosthetic microclinic are currently being set up, and training for specialists is being organized at the Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University.
As of now, the final stage of equipment installation is underway, including 20 modern 3D printers and production machines that can manufacture up to 600 prostheses per month. This will create one of the largest prosthetic production centers in Europe.
A six-week training course for 16 specialists in post-amputation rehabilitation has already started at the future microclinic at Lviv Medical University. After completing the course, specialists will be able to work with modern equipment and provide prosthetics services to patients.
In addition, Ukrainian orthotists and prosthetists have also undergone two weeks of training under the guidance of French experts.
How it will work: the patient goes to the microclinic for an initial examination, where specialists take measurements and provide consultation. Then all the data is sent to the production center, which manufactures an individual prosthesis using modern technologies. After that, the prosthesis is fitted and rehabilitation begins.
At the same time, preparations are underway to launch microclinics in other regions of Ukraine. In particular, all the necessary equipment has already been delivered to Poltava, and organizational work is underway, while preparatory measures are continuing in the Kyiv region. The budget for each project is approximately €800,000.
Each microclinic will have an area of about 80 m² and will include everything necessary for the work of specialists and the convenience of patients: consultation rooms, a walking room with prosthesis testing, a reception room, a waiting room, sanitary facilities, and a shower room for medical staff.
The program is being implemented as part of a large intergovernmental grant agreement between France and Ukraine covering several sectors, including healthcare. The document was signed on June 7, 2024, and ratified by the Verkhovna Rada on August 20. The agreement came into force on October 22, 2024, and the decision to implement it was adopted by the Strategic Investment Council on October 29.
The project is funded by the French government as part of the Fonds Ukraine initiative. The contractor is Résilience Orthopédics, selected by the French side, and the implementation is coordinated by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The implementation of this initiative will enable Ukraine to develop a network of modern prosthetic micro-clinics and provide people who have undergone amputations with access to quality rehabilitation.
