Teratoblastoma treatment

Teratoblastoma is a rare type of tumor from the group of teratomas-formations that arise from embryonic structures and are characterized by the presence of atypical features for a particular tissue.
Uncharacteristic of normal tissue formations may be in their infancy or contain fully formed muscles, pieces of bone, and sometimes complex organs, such as the eye. Teratoma is more common in children, less often in adolescence and in adulthood.

Frequently Asked Questions

1
What teratoblastomas exist
  • Benign, which are also called mature — consist of differentiated tissues, their prognosis is
    favorable,
  • Malignant, respectively, immature

They are divided into:

  • Cancer,
  • Fetal cancer,
  • Sarcoma,
  • Herminogens,
  • Yolk sac tumor,
  • Choriocarcinoma,
  • Actually teratoblastoma,
  • And some others.
1
Where do teratoblastomas occur

As a rule, the tumor appears in:

  • Ovaries,
  • Testicles,
  • Abdominal cavity,
  • Sacro-coccygeal junction,
  • In the head and neck

The rest are considered teratomas of rare localizations, and are rare.

1
What are the symptoms of teratoblastoma

The symptoms are varied and depend on the stage and location. So, teratoblastomas of the lumbococcal region, which are located on the skin, are visible in children from the first days
of life. Internal teratoblastomas are usually detected when they begin to grow and squeeze the surrounding organs and tissues, thereby disrupting their work.

Common teratoblastomas cause severe pain, weight loss, and anemia.

1
How is teratoblastoma diagnosed

Diagnostic methods include:

  • Ultrasound,
  • Computer tomography,
  • Magnetic resonance therapy,
  • A biopsy,
  • Sonography,
  • PET-CT SCAN,
  • Вlood test for the specific marker alpha-fetoprotein.
1
What is the treatment for teratoblastoma
  • The treatment depends entirely on the form. The main method of treatment is surgical. It is important to remove the teratoblastoma together with the capsule, as a new tumor may grow in the same place or metastases may appear from the remains of an undetected tumor.
  • In addition, experienced doctors perform chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, and immunotherapy. In addition, in advanced cases, the doctor can use cytoreductive surgery, in which the tumor is not completely removed, but partially. This prolongs the survival rate.
  • Doctors monitor the dynamics of alpha-fetoprotein and sometimes hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin).
1
Why do patients choose to treat teratoblastoma abroad
  • This is a difficult diagnostic tumor. It has a variety of flow options and tends to develop rapidly. An error in determining the histological form or treatment plan can lead to the returnof the disease, cost your health or life. Therefore, if you suspect a teratoblastoma, it is safer to contact one of the world’s specialized centers for this problem.
  • The use of laparoscopic, thoracoscopic, endoscopic operations and with the use of the da Vinci robot will provide the least traumatic and painful intervention with the best cosmetic effects.
  • Multidisciplinary approach. For example, before the removal of an ovarian or testicular teratoblastoma, a reproductive specialist is consulted for the preservation of reproductive function, and an action plan is drawn up for the risks to it.
1
How much does it cost to treat teratoblastoma

This disease can have so many variants and features that nothing can be predicted in advance.

If we are talking about a relatively typical benign ovarian or testicular formation, treatment:

  • In Turkey, it will cost up to $18 thousand,
  • In Europe, up to $30 thousand,
  • In Israel, up to $55 thousand.
