Each year, the clinic performs more than 1,200 partial or total knee and hip arthroplasties. And over the entire period of the department’s existence, more than 15,000 such operations have been performed.
The great experience of the medical team, headed by the head doctor Sergio Romagnoli, allows complex operations to be carried out using minimally invasive techniques which shortens the patient’s rehabilitation period.
At Galeazzi, joint replacements are performed for the following conditions:
- Osteonecrosis of the hip and knee,
- Arthritis of the hip and knee,
- Rheumatoid arthritis.
- Joint replacement after trauma and dysplastic disorders.
The special training of specialists and the equipment of the clinic, makes it possible to conduct joint revision after joint replacement surgery. For this reason, many patients come to the Galeatsia in case of complications after joint replacement surgery.
Individual operation plan
The department’s specialists perform all types of joint replacement surgeries, including new minimally invasive techniques, which allows for an individualized treatment plan to be developed to meet the specific needs of the patient.
Knee joint surgeries:
- Partial joint replacement: medial and lateral unipolar hip replacement, patellofemoral arthroplasty,
- Combined knee replacement – joint replacement with one-stage cruciate ligament plasty,
- Total knee replacement with preservation of the posterior cruciate ligament.
Operations on the hip joint:
- Minimally invasive joint replacement by anterior and anteroposterior access,
- Revision surgery after a joint replacement is performed.
Prior to joint replacement, a CT scan with three-dimensional reconstruction is performed to form a holistic picture and develop a surgical plan.
