Liposuction

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery during which a surgeon removes excess accumulation of adipose tissue in problem areas. This allows specialists to correct the figure, give it a more slender appearance, and make the silhouette more attractive. Also, this procedure can be used to correct the area of the face. In addition, plastic surgery clinics today offer safe and less traumatic methods of non-surgical liposuction.

This is one of the most popular surgical procedures in the field of aesthetic medicine. With its help, it is possible to quickly and effectively remove fat from places of its disproportionate accumulation, for example, the abdomen, thighs, chin.

Liposuction

The procedure is not suitable for combating obesity, since the operation does not affect the causes of weight gain, and it cannot be used to remove significant fat deposits throughout the body. However, it makes it possible to quickly and effectively eliminate accumulations of fat in the so-called “fat traps”. It is also important to know that this procedure does not remove visceral fat, but only subcutaneous fat.

Who is suitable for liposuction?

The main indication is the presence of excessive body fat localized in certain areas. The most common areas are:

  • abdomen;
  • hips;
  • waist;
  • back;
  • armpits;
  • on the inner surface of the hands;
  • chin area;
  • the area under the eyes.

The most popular are liposuction of the abdomen in men and women, liposuction of the thighs, and removal of fat on the face.

This operation is recommended if:

  • the patient’s weight is not too large (body mass index less than 30);
  • age over 18;
  • the skin has not lost its firmness and elasticity;
  • there are no significant health deviations;
  • when local fat deposits are difficult to influence by correcting nutrition and physical activity.

Who is contraindicated for liposuction?

It is not recommended to do this operation with too much weight. In addition, the procedure is contraindicated in diabetes mellitus, diseases associated with circulatory disorders, and some other pathologies.

Types of liposuction

Today, several methods of surgical liposuction are used. The most common include the following:

  • Classic liposuction. This type of operation is rarely used today. During the operation, the surgeon introduces several special cannulas into the desired area. With the help of translational movements, the specialist mechanically destroys fat cells. Then the fat is pumped out.
  • Tumescent liposuction. This type differs from the previous one in that a special solution is introduced into the area of surgical intervention, which contributes to the liquefaction of adipose tissue. And after that, fat is pumped out.
  • Water jet liposuction. In this case, the fluid is injected into the operation area under high pressure. In this way, the fat is broken down and then removed through special instruments. The advantage of this technique is that the fat cells remain intact. After removing them from the problem area and special processing in the laboratory, they can be used for lipofilling.
  • Laser liposuction. This is a minimally invasive method that uses laser energy. The laser beam is directed to the adipose tissue through a microcannula. This leads to the fact that they pass into a liquid consistency, after which they are removed by suction.

Modern methods of fat removal: non-surgical liposuction

Non-surgical techniques allow patients to remove significant fat deposits without a scalpel:

  • Laser lipolysis. This is a non-surgical method in which the destruction of adipose tissue is performed using a laser. After that, it can be excreted naturally through the lymphatic system. The use of a laser has an additional positive effect on the skin and connective tissue, stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, and creates an additional tightening effect.
  • Ultrasonic liposuction (cavitation). In this case, the adipose tissue is exposed to ultrasonic waves, after which the excess fat passes into a state of emulsion, which is gradually excreted from the body through the lymphatic system. Some leading clinics today offer 3D VASER liposuction. This technique simultaneously corrects the contours of the body and tightens the skin.
  • Radiofrequency method. The destruction of adipose tissue is carried out using electrodes. This effect has a positive effect on the condition of the skin and allows additionally fighting cellulite.
  • Cryoliposuction. With the help of a special apparatus, the problem area is exposed to low temperatures, which leads to the destruction of excess fat deposits, which are then independently excreted through the lymph.

How is the procedure carried out

Липосакция методы

All types of liposuction are less traumatic, therefore, as a rule, there is no need for general anesthesia. Anesthesia of the areas that will be corrected is usually done. Features of the procedure largely depend on its type. If you have chosen surgical liposuction, then in all cases, the surgeon inserts thin metal tubes, cannulas into the affected area, through which the effect on fat cells is carried out. Fat is broken down and then excreted from the body in a special way.

Some variants of the procedure save fat cells and then use them for lipofilling. This is a cosmetic surgical procedure in which fat cells are implanted in areas that need to be enlarged, such as the buttocks.

With non-surgical methods, the area where the “fat traps” are located is affected using special devices. It does not make any incisions in the skin. The removal of fat cells when using these techniques is carried out by the body itself through the lymphatic system.

    Risks and side effects

    Modern liposuction techniques allow doctors to carry out the procedure safely. Side effects of liposuction surgery include insufficient results. This most often occurs with significant excess weight.

    Also, after pumping out fat, in rare cases, there may be:

    • asymmetry, bumps appear;
    • numbness or tenderness at the surgical site;
    • inflammation in the surgical area;
    • hematomas and edema;
    • fat embolism, when fat enters the vessels of the lungs or heart and blocks blood flow there.

    However, if you carry out the procedure in the best plastic surgery clinics, then the likelihood of such effects will be minimal.

    During surgery, small scars may remain at the site of insertion of the tubes under the skin. But over time, they will become less noticeable and in a year they will practically not be visible.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    How long does the effect of liposuction last?

    plus close

    You can see the maximum effect 5-6 weeks after the procedure, when the swelling in this area is completely gone. After that, it will be stored for 3-5 years. However, this time can be noticeably extended, depending on your weight and level of physical activity.

If we talk about the operation of liposuction, then it can be replaced by non-surgical methods, such as cryolipolysis, radiofrequency exposure, and ultrasound exposure. Also, injections of lipolytics, substances that break down fat, can be an alternative.

    For those who want not just to remove fat in specific areas, but to significantly reduce weight, bariatric surgery may be recommended.

    How much does liposuction cost?
