Endarteritis obliterans treatment
Endarteritis obliterans (EO) is a peripheral vascular disease characterized by a gradual onset, distal small vessel involvement, and a progressive course with trophic impairment of soft tissues and a tendency to ulceration and possibly gangrene.
The disease can affect both sexes, although it is mainly seen in men. There is no age limitation, but most cases are usually reported between 45-60 years of age.
The primary care of the patient with EO is to:
- avoid alcohol and nicotine;
- avoid overheating and overcooling of the extremities;
- wear only comfortable shoes;
- minimize nervous tension, avoid stressful situations;
- have regular massages of the feet, lower legs and back.
In this case, it is extremely important to reduce the caloric content of the diet, avoid fatty, fried and sweet dishes. Despite the painful sensations, it is necessary to walk at least half an hour a day, taking small breaks if necessary. It is possible to practice swimming and cycling.
Treatment of EO
The first stage of the disease is treated with conservative methods.
The second stage usually requires surgical treatment.
