Minimally invasive operations

The hospital is equipped with hybrid OR operating rooms that combine a state-of-the-art operating room and real-time imaging equipment. This enables doctors to perform complex cardiac surgeries with the ability to examine heart structures directly on the operating table.

Usually, to replace the aortic and mitral valves, it is necessary to perform an incision of the sternum — sternotomy. Aortic valve surgery also involves stopping the heart and connecting the patient to an artificial circulatory system. These operations are difficult for patients to tolerate and have a large number of complications and undesirable consequences.

Doctors at Herzzentrum Bremen use minimally invasive heart valve replacement techniques – TAVI and MitraClip. Now prosthetics are performed endovascularly, i.e. through a vessel, without the need for large and traumatic incisions. The elastic valve is placed in a catheter, a special guide that enters the heart cavity through the femoral artery, where the valve is prosthetically repaired.
