A team of specialists works here: neurologists, neurosurgeons, rehabilitation specialists, and sleep disorder specialists. The department brings together units such as:

  • Department of General Neurology;
  • Department of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders;
  • Department of Behavioral and Memory Disorders;
  • Clinic for neuromuscular disorders;
  • Electrophysiology laboratory;
  • Rehabilitation department and neuropsychiatric laboratory.

The specialists cooperate with the medical university and take part in the development and implementation of new methods of treating nervous diseases.

Epilepsy treatment

Patients from all over the world undergo diagnostics and treatment of the main forms of epilepsy: generalized and partial seizures, absences, etc. To get an accurate diagnosis it is necessary to conduct MRI, EEG and laboratory blood tests. All this is possible on the basis of Medipol Neurology Clinic.

Here they conduct multi-day video EEG monitoring, which allows you to identify epileptic brain activity at different times of the day — during sleep, wakefulness, various physical activities. Observation of the brain over several days allows us to detect hidden forms of epilepsy, which are invisible in a few hours of research.

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of 3 Tesla is used to visualize the epileptic focus. By comparison, most medical centers use 0.5-1.5 Tesla machines. Identification of epileptic foci at an earlier stage allows doctors to prescribe a more appropriate antiepileptic therapy.

Epilepsy is treated with antiepileptic drugs according to American therapy protocols. More than 20 drugs are used here, while in other countries about 10 drugs are registered.

The Ministry of Health of Turkey strictly controls the release and circulation of medicines. This guarantees that you will be treated only with quality medicines.

Electrophysiology Laboratory

Doctors evaluate the electrical impulses in different parts of the peripheral and central nervous system. This is an important step in the diagnosis of a large number of diseases — epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, myasthenia, sleep disorders, etc.

In the Medipol neurology clinic such examinations are available:

  • Electroencephalography (EEG);
  • Electromyography (EMG);
  • Associated potentials (AP) research;
  • Polysomnography.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS)

During this neurosurgical intervention, a specialist implants a special transmitter and transmitter. The device sends pulses to certain areas of the brain, allowing treatment of conditions such as:

  • Parkinson’s disease;
  • Chronic pain;
  • Spontaneous tremor;
  • Neuromuscular dystonia.

At Medipol University Hospital, DBS is performed by a specialist with 30 years of experience — Ali Zirch. The professor has about 1000 successful deep brain stimulations to his credit. The doctor specializes in functional and stereotactic neurosurgery.
