Medipol University Hospital: Department of General Surgery

Turkey, Istanbul
5.00
Excellent(5.001 review)

Medipol University Hospital admits patients with all kinds of surgical pathologies of the abdomen, chest, thyroid and breast, etc. Special attention is paid to oncological diseases that require special training of specialists and equipment of operating rooms.

Equipment of operating rooms

Operation rooms are built in accordance with international standards of the World Health Organization. The air circulation system in the operating rooms is equipped with special purification system and HEPA filters. This helps to avoid the development of nosocomial infections in postoperative period.

Intraoperative CT and MRI scanners, laparoscopic systems, and optical systems for multiple magnification of the operating field are always available to the surgeons.

Department of Colorectal Surgery

Treatment of patients with diseases of the large intestine is performed by a team of specialists: pathologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiation therapists, medical oncologists and chemotherapists. Multidisciplinary approach makes it possible to find optimal treatment tactics for patients with severe disease.

The main profile of the department is cancer processes of the large intestine and functional disorders — systematic constipation and diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome.

Equipment

The department is equipped with CT, MRI, ultrasound, PET and scintigraphy facilities. This allows an effective and timely diagnosis and immediate treatment.

Safety

Operations on the large intestine are performed using laparoscopic units or through physiological openings — transrectal access. These operations are safer and better tolerated by patients.
Facilities at the clinic allow for pre-, post- and intra-operative radiation therapy, depending on the condition and needs of the patient.

The pathology laboratory performs a complete study of histological (tumor cells) material, including complex genetic tests, which help to determine the prognosis of the disease and adjust the treatment.

Department of Breast Surgery

Breast cancer treatment is performed by an experienced team of senologists and mammologists who collaborate with radiotherapists, medical oncologists and surgeons.

The department’s priority is the best possible cosmetic outcome. Medipol surgeons perform one-stage breast tumor removal followed by reconstruction and installation of silicone implants if needed.

To prevent excessive removal of skin and nipples, specialists perform marking of tumor cells with radioisotopes, which allows detecting tumor cells that are not visible to the surgeon’s eye.

Medipol specialists practice removal of the breast as a preventive measure if the patient is a high risk and is a carrier of the BRCA mutation. At one time, the famous film actress Angelina Jolie had such an operation.
