Pericarditis treatment
Pericarditis is a disease, which could be described as an inflammation of the membrane that surrounds the heart. In most cases, the cause of the disease is a viral infection.
Pericarditis can be acute or chronic. Pericardial effusion is a common complication of the acute form, which consists in the accumulation of fluid in the pericardium and disruption of the heart muscle.
Diagnostics: laboratory analysis, X-ray, MRI, CT, ECG, EchoCG, biopsy.
Treatment: drug therapy, pericardiectomy, drainage, pericardiocentesis, percutaneous balloon pericardiotomy.
