Syringomyelia treatment

Syringomyelia is a chronic condition in which enlargements form in the spinal canal. Most often this is a consequence of trauma or a congenital defect.

These cavities can enlarge and compress the surrounding nerves, which leads to the characteristic signs of syringomyelia: muscle weakness, loss of sensation, pain in the limbs. For diagnosis, neurological examination, assessment of muscle tone, electroneuromyography, CT and MRI are performed.
