Spizhenko Clinic: Chemotherapy Treatment Center

Ukraine, Kyiv

One of the main areas of cancer treatment is chemotherapy. The patient receives a course of chemotherapy from several weeks to several months. The drugs have a toxic effect on the tumor. This leads to the suppression or death of cancer cells.

Most often, chemotherapy is administered intravenously. The surgeons at the Spizhenko Clinic install subcutaneous ports for multiple intravenous injections. This protects the vein from frequent punctures if the patient is to be treated for more than 10 days.

The center has a specially equipped room for chemotherapy. It is equipped with comfortable chairs and beds. Chemotherapy sessions are supervised by medical personnel. Patients can stay with their relatives during the treatment.

Patients are treated according to the protocols of the world’s leading associations:

  • ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology);
  • NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network);
  • ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology).

Chemotherapy is part of a comprehensive treatment of cancer. It is used as an independent therapy or in combination with surgery, radiotherapy and radiosurgery.

Chemotherapy protocols are developed individually for each patient. A team of specialists takes part in treatment planning: a chemotherapist, a medical oncologist and a surgeon. This allows doctors to develop an optimal course of treatment. The patient can control the preparation of chemotherapy drugs. The original name, date of manufacture, tightness of packaging and compliance with dosages are checked.

The chemotherapy center of the Spizhenko clinic offers patients a modern medical treatment of oncology:

  • Targeted therapy (therapy of targeted action) — drugs specifically target tumor cells, disrupting their growth and development;
  • Immunotherapy. Medications stimulate the patient’s own immune system to fight against tumor cells;
  • Modernized chemotherapy protocols;
  • Supportive treatment to prevent side effects.
