The oncology department consists of 8 centers for:
- gynecological oncology,
- breast cancer,
- skin cancer,
- endocrine tumors,
- cancer of the digestive system,
- blood cancer,
- sarcomas,
- urological tumors.
Gynecological oncology
The Gynecological Center offers the full range of modern diagnostics and cancer treatment in the field of gynecology. It has been certified and awarded by the German Cancer Society («Focus» list). Treatment methods are based on the latest scientific discoveries.
Comprehensive diagnostics
During the consultations, you can individually plan the treatment, carry out the appropriate preliminary diagnostics and develop a comprehensive therapy concept. Tissue tests are done to detect changes in the vulva, vagina, or cervix and to differentiate from cancer precursors.
Operative treatment
Surgical therapy includes all standard endoscopic treatments. At precancerous stages, the method of conization and laser treatment is used. In case of ovarian cancer, the operation to remove a polyvisceral tumor is performed by a team of specialists:
- gynecologists-oncologists,
- visceral surgeons,
- urologists.
After surgery or after all test results have been received, each case is presented at a tumor conference and an individual treatment concept is developed. This is discussed in detail with the patient in person and the next steps or follow-up are planned.
Medication
In a specialized gynecological and oncological center, chemotherapy and antibody therapy for gynecological malignant neoplasms and breast cancer are performed.
Oncology of the digestive tract
It is the leading center in the north of Berlin and Brandenburg for the treatment of tumor diseases:
- intestines,
- stomach,
- pancreas,
- liver,
- esophagus.
This center uses a combination of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. This results in high rates of disease cure and improved long-term survival. Other advantages: interdisciplinary approach to treatment, ongoing examinations and optimization of therapy.
Modern therapy options
In this department, doctors use innovative methods: intraoperative radiation IORT and abdominal chemotherapy HIPEC.
Blood cancer
About 2,000 inpatients and more than 9,000 outpatients are treated here every year. In addition to a large specialized polyclinic for hematology and internal oncology, the clinic has:
- 40 beds in the ambulance sector,
- 11 beds in the palliative sector,
- 4 beds in a specialized polyclinic.
The main focus is on interdisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of patients with systemic hematological diseases:
- acute myeloid and lymphatic leukemia,
- myelodysplastic syndromes,
- chronic myeloproliferative diseases,
- Hodgkin’s disease,
- non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma,
- multiple myeloma.
In the clinic of hemato-oncology:
- diagnostic examination and treatment of diseases of the hematopoietic or lymphatic system,
- clarification of the causes of blood clotting disorders (increased tendency to bleeding, venous thromboembolism) and their therapy.
Modern diagnostic procedures
The Оncohematology Clinic has at its disposal the most modern and recognized diagnostic procedures:
- characterization of blood cells using cytology,
- immunophenotyping and molecular genetic methods,
- all imaging techniques, including positron emission tomography.
Patients with systemic hematological disease are treated with established or emerging drug strategies, including:
- high-dose chemotherapy with subsequent transplantation of autologous pluripotent blood cells,
- individual and interdisciplinary coordinated radiation therapy procedures.
