The Oberig clinic is equipped with its own high-tech radiation therapy center, which not only meets all modern European and American standards, but also surpasses them in some areas.
The Radiotherapy center treats:
- Malignant neoplasms and benign brain tumors;
- Neoplasms of the central nervous system;
- Tumors located in hard-to-reach places;
- Tumors of any localization in patients with contraindications for surgery.
Radiation therapists and clinical oncologists use clinical protocols in their work:
- ESTRO — European Society of Radiology Oncology;
- ESMO — European Society for Medical Oncology and Radiology;
- NCCN — National Cancer Institute of America.
Technical specialists (medical physicists, medical engineers, X-ray laboratory assistants) are certified in the courses:
- Varian (Switzerland);
- Target Volume Determination — from Imaging to Margins (Greece);
- InHolland University of Applied Science (Netherlands);
- Advanced Treatment Planning (Hungary);
- Clinical medical Center Osiek (Croatia).
The Radiotherapy center of the Oberig clinic is equipped with the latest generation TrueBeam STx linear accelerator, which supports all the necessary therapy modes:
- IGRT is a system for monitoring the irradiation zones taking into account the position of the surrounding tissues and taking into account the movement of tissues relative to each other during breathing;
- IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) is a system aimed at reducing the toxicity of treatment. With radiation therapy on a standard linear accelerator, radiation comes from several points, so each beam does not cause much harm to the tissues of the body, and a destructive dose is concentrated at the site of the tumor. When irradiated with the IMRT system, each beam does not create a uniform radiation, but modifies the radiation so that the radiation intensity is higher in the part that enters the tumor zone, while in the other parts it remains minimal;
- SRS (Stereotactic Radiation Surgery) is a technique that allows you to remove some small formations in 1 session. Suitable for the removal of metastases of a certain diameter, arteriovenous malformations, acoustic neuroma, Parkinson’s disease and extrapyramidal syndrome;
- RapidArc (VMAT) — provides 4-8 times faster dose delivery and 2-4 times shorter treatment time, which allows for faster surgical treatment if necessary;
- The MLC is a multi-leaf collimator that accurately follows the shape of the tumor and the 6D treatment table are additional methods to avoid unnecessary irradiation of healthy tissue.
Also, the radiation therapy center has developed its own quality control methodology, which is 4-5 stricter than existing world standards. This provides patients with highly effective treatment without the cost of other procedures.
