Robotic surgery at the Hospital of St. Zdislava
The clinic performs many minimally invasive surgeries using the da Vinci type X robotic system (Intuitive Surgical, 2023). In terms of the number of robotic interventions performed, Hospital of St. Zdislava is the largest robotic center in the Czech Republic, and one of the largest centers in Europe. In one year, the clinic’s doctors perform more than 1,000 operations using the da Vinci robot. Of these, 500 operations involve removal of the prostate.
During the operation, the surgeon sees a three-dimensional image, enlarged by 35 times, and the high clarity of the system displays the smallest movements of the doctor, which allows minimizing damage to tissues and internal organs, reducing blood loss, speeding up the operation and reducing rehabilitation time. Due to the fact that access to the surgical field is through small incisions, patients are left with no noticeable scars after surgery.
Surgeons at Hospital of St. Zdislava perform the following operations using the Da Vinci robot:
- treatment of urethral stricture using buccal urethroplasty;
- prostatectomy of any complexity;
- removal of prostate adenoma;
- removal of the bladder;
- kidney removal (nephrectomy);
- implantation of an artificial bladder sphincter.
What other types of operations are performed at the Hospital of St. Zdislava?
In addition to robotic surgery, the hospital also offers a wide range of orthopedic surgery procedures. In this segment, the most popular are hip and knee replacement surgeries, as well as revision surgeries. Over the past few years, the clinic has been performing about 500 such operations annually.
