Frequently Asked Questions

1
What is a check-up program

The doctor chooses a set of tests individually. The choice is influenced by your sex, age, history of specific complaints and illnesses in you or your relatives. The check-up program contains diagnostic methods that suit you best and provide comprehensive information about your health.

Basic Check-Up Program

A standard body check-up helps to detect internal organ disorders. It includes these tests:

  • Columnar and biochemical blood tests;
  • Monitoring of urine/feces;
  • Chest radiography;
  • Utrasound diagnostics (ultrasound) of the abdomen and pelvis;
  • Laboratory examination of kidney, liver and thyroid function.

Extended diagnostic programs include a basic check-up and additional examinations.

Check-up diagnostics for men

In addition to basic tests, the man undergoes a consultation with a urologist. The doctor performs urologic examination and ultrasound examination of the prostate. The lab measures male sex hormone levels and PSA (prostate-specific antigen) to detect prostate cancer at an early stage. The male check-up contains different tests depending on the cost of the program and the age of the patient. Typically, there are programs under the age of 35, 35 to 60, and over 60.

Check-up diagnostics for women

Preventive examination of women focuses on the hormonal and reproductive system. You will be offered a consultation with a gynecologist and a gynecological exam and a vaginal or cervical smear will be taken. Instrumental examinations include:

  • Thyroid, breast and pelvic ultrasound;
  • Pulmonary fluorography;
  • Mammography (breast X-ray).

Depending on age, the women’s diagnostic program may differ just as much as the men’s.

Children’s Check-Up

The pediatric check-up is supplemented by consultations with a pediatrician, ophthalmologist, dentist and otorhinolaryngologist. In addition to standard tests, look for helminths and chronic foci of infection.

Continued Programs

Some clinics offer programs for patients to examine specific organs and systems:

  • Memory and brain function tests;
  • Sleep quality test;
  • Allergological examination;
  • Cardiovascular examination;
  • Oncology check-up.

It’s important to remember that check-up programs may differ at each clinic. To get a list of available programs from a specific clinic, leave an application on MedTour’s website.

How to prepare for a check-up at a Turkish hospital

The check-up does not require any special preparation. The day before the examination, you should refrain from taking alcohol and tobacco, intensive physical activity and food that can cause excessive gas formation in the stomach and intestines (legumes, sodas, cabbage, smoked foods).

The examination begins in the morning, on an empty stomach. You can drink non-carbonated water during the examination.

Why do patients choose Turkish clinics for check-ups

Cost

The check-up procedures are cheaper than the same tests and instrumental examinations performed separately. This is due to price optimization for frequently performed examinations. Also, the cost of diagnosis and treatment in Turkish clinics is 30-50% lower than in Germany, Israel, and other countries with developed medicine. This makes Turkish medicine more accessible to foreign patients.

Technological equipment

Leading Turkish clinics have all the equipment required for high-quality diagnosis:

  • MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) with 3.0 Tesla field strength;
  • CT (computed tomography) with the ability to visualize 256 sections of the human body;
  • In-house laboratory with capabilities for general, genetic and cancer tests;
  • Computer-enhanced X-ray machines for greater detail and less radiation exposure to the patient;
  • Electronic recording of all examinations and specialist reports and possibility of instant data transmission to any part of the medical center.

Service and comfort

International staff in Turkish Medical Centers ensures the patient’s comfortable stay in the hospital:

  • Companionship during diagnostic procedures and consultations with specialists;
  • Translate medical documents into English or the patient’s native language;
  • Provide extra comfort rooms for the entire period of diagnosis or help with apartment reservations near the clinic;
  • Organizing transfers for personal travel.

International quality standards

Most international Turkish hospitals are accredited by JCI (Joint Commission International). This is an independent American organization that audits and evaluates clinics around the world. JCI accreditation ensures that patients receive quality medical care no matter what country they are in.
