Dr. Subash Gupta is a distinguished Indian transplant surgeon, widely recognized beyond national borders as one of the most experienced and skilled physicians in his field. The founded and headed the Max Healthcare Liver Transplant Centre and also established, directed, and served as the Chief Physician of the Liver Transplant and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery Department at the Apollo Hospital Liver Centre.

Together with his team, Dr. Gupta performs approximately 300 liver transplants annually.

Professional achievements

• Performed India’s first assisted partial orthotopic liver transplant in a child with fulminant liver failure.
• For the first time in India, the doctor successfully transferred a transplant patient from the operating room to a regular ward, bypassing the ICU stay.
• Co-developed a new technique for liver resection in donors, significantly improving the safety of the procedure.
• Carried out India’s first successful liver transplant in the youngest patient (6 months old);

• From 1993 to 1995 – Liver Transplant Fellow at Queen Elizabeth Medical Center in the United Kingdom.
• From 1995 to 1998 – Junior Consultant in the Organ Transplant Department at St. James University Hospital, Leeds.
• From 1998 to 2006 – Senior Consultant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where he co-founded the Liver Transplant Unit with Dr. S. Nandi.
• Since 2006 – Joined the Organ Transplant Department at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.
• 2016 – Founded the “Max Healthcare Center for Transplant of Liver”.
