Polina Stepensky is the Head of the Bone Marrow Transplant and Immunotherapy Department at Hadassah Hospital, Jerusalem. She has more than 20 years of clinical experience in hematology and holds the title of professor.
During her tenure as head of the department, about 4,000 bone marrow transplants were performed under the direction of Polina Stepensky. Half of the patients are children. The youngest patient is less than six months old.
Dr. Stepensky’s team does research and conducts CAR-T cell therapy. This is a new method of treating severe blood cancers with genetic engineering. The doctors modify the patient’s own blood cells and produce an immune response against cancerous blood cells.
Prof. Stepensky participates in international research on the treatment of blood diseases with bone marrow transplants. He is the author of more than 90 scientific papers, which are widely cited by physicians around the world (Hirsch index 34).
In addition to her clinical and scientific work, Polina Stepensky teaches at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the Faculty of Medicine.
