Professor Pietro Mortini is an experienced neurosurgeon, who specializes in skull base surgery, brain and spinal cord tumors, and cerebrovascular pathology. Prof. Mortini has performed over 8,000 neurosurgical procedures and stereotactic radiosurgery procedures using the Gamma Knife.
The Department, headed by Professor Pietro Martini, is an international reference center for the treatment of pituitary tumors (non-secreting pituitary adenomas, Cushing disease, acromegaly, prolactinomas, craniopharyngiomas). The center treats more than 200 cases of pituitary tumors annually, and uses modern techniques such as:
The world’s first operation to remove a brain tumor using a robotic microscope was performed in 2020, in the Department of Neurosurgery under the direction of Professor Pietro Martini.
During his career, in addition to his clinical activity, Professor Mortini has dedicated himself to research and development of new neurosurgical techniques. He has invented over 60 new microneurosurgical instruments. Since 2008, the professor has been the Director of the Specialized School of Neurosurgery of the Vita Salute San Raffaele University and the Director of various Master’s programs at the same University.
Pietro Mortini is the author of more than 230 scientific papers published in scientific journals of great international importance and is a member of the editorial board of various specialized journals. Since 2015, he has been a visiting consultant at Ibn Sina Hospital in Kuwait.
