Mykola Kolesnyk is a leading Ukrainian scientist in the field of nephrology, director of the State Institution “Institute of Nephrology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine”, Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, nephrologist of the highest category. He is a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, a laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, and an Honored Scientist and Technician of Ukraine. Mykola Kolesnyk acts as the chief specialist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in nephrology and actively participates in international and national professional organizations, including the Ukrainian Association of Nephrologists and the National Kidney Foundation of Ukraine.
Professor Kolesnyk has dedicated his career to studying the mechanisms of occurrence and progression of diseases of the urinary system, as well as improving methods of treatment and diagnosis of chronic kidney diseases and acute kidney injury. His research interests include dialysis therapy, development of classifications of diseases of the urinary system and kidneys, as well as standardization of approaches to the treatment of these diseases. Under his leadership, a conceptual model of urinary tract infections (UTIs) was created, which became the basis for strategic planning of further research.
In addition, the working group led by Mykola Kolesnyk developed and implemented clinical guidelines, standards and protocols for providing specialized care to patients with chronic kidney diseases. His efforts contributed to the unification of terminology and treatment methods in nephrology at the national level and international recognition of the Ukrainian scientific school in this field.
The main areas of scientific and practical activity of the doctor are the study of the mechanisms of occurrence and progression of diseases of the urinary system, the study of problems of dialysis therapy of patients with chronic kidney disease or acute kidney injury.
