Andrii Kovalov is the chief physician of the Ailaz Medical Center, an ophthalmologist of the highest category, a consultant physician, and a Candidate of Medical Sciences.
Andrii Kovalov completed his studies at the Odessa Pirogov Medical Institute in 1979 with honors. After the institute, he worked at the Filatov Research Institute of Eye Diseases, holding positions of junior and senior researcher, and then headed the department of vitrectomy and retinal detachment.
In 1987, he defended his PhD thesis on retinal surgery.
From 1990 to 2003, Dr. Kovalov worked abroad, completing internships at various leading institutions:
- at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA) in vitrectomy and phacoemulsification;
- at the clinical site of Oertli (Zurich, Switzerland) for phacoemulsification;
- at Bausch & Lomb (Munich, Germany) for laser vision correction, as well as in Arizona (USA);
- with Professor Seiler in Zurich (Switzerland) on cross-linking.
He has performed more than 30,000 ophthalmological operations, of which about 10,000 are refractive interventions. The doctor is a recognized specialist in the treatment of retinal pathologies, cataract and refractive eye surgery.
Dr. Kovalov has 22 years of experience with ophthalmic lasers and has worked with the Technolas laser for over 10 years. He completed specialization and received licenses for the use of Technolas lasers in Germany (models Zyoptix 100 in 2001 and Zyoptix z100 in 2004).
